HOW TO EVALUATE A LOAD

Look beyond the advertised rate before approving a booking.

HUDSON CARRIER GUIDE

Count every mile

Include the deadhead to pickup as well as loaded miles. A $1,000 load with 400 loaded miles and 100 deadhead miles produces $2.00 per total mile before expenses.

Include the dispatch fee

At a 5–10% commission, an illustrative $1,000 commissionable load value carries a $50–$100 dispatch fee. Your agreement defines the actual commission basis.

Account for time and cost

Consider fuel, tolls, maintenance, insurance, dispatch, and other costs. Appointment windows, waiting time, and overnight stays affect the economics too.

Check the details

Review commodity, weight, dimensions, equipment, loading access, tracking, and delivery requirements. Confirm ambiguous instructions before approving.

Think about the next move

Consider the destination market, your remaining hours, and realistic reload options. A strong outbound rate may still lead to an expensive empty return.
